“The Librarians” is a relatively simple and compact scene that, as I’d hope, has a powerful impact with its vision of a dystopian future where guardians preserve the written word as in Fahrenheit 54. The figures are by Master Box, with only a few minor modifications. The bookshelves are scratched, as are the books—and that was by far the hardest part! I tried wood and plastic blocks, but nothing looked like paper as much as… paper. So each book was cut from cardstock, with manila paper pages glued in the middle, painted, and white-glued in place. Yeah, it took forever, but the results were worth it. There are two acrylic front-surface mirrors cut to size at the left and right of the back hallway; it’s not easy to see in pictures, but craning your neck in front of the actual boxes, that rear passageway seems to extend forever. The box won a Gold Medal in Fantasy Open at the MFCA Show in 2025.
