Alain, orginigally from Belgium, now lives in Sydney, Australia and has been making dioramas since about 2016. He designs his dioramas to be hung on a wall. To do this, he uses a wooden box frame to which he nails a wooden base.
Alain tells us "Most of them are inspired by B-movies of the 50s and 60s, some directly (The Blob), some wholly original (Antartika), I like to have fun with it, and hope to share with people that little childhood moment of simple enjoyment. Once, my daughter asked me why are there always monsters in my dioramas? So I said: 'Well, don’t mess with nature, don’t pollute oceans, decimate forests, or some creature will show up and be very angry and deal with it, right?!' She said 'ah yeah'. Kids get it."
Alain works mainly in 1/76 scale. The creatures/monsters and most structures are handmade with cheap supplies such as Plasticine, Polyfilla, sealant, wire, wood sticks, string, paint, nail polish, cotton balls, balsa, paper, glue etc.
