When Dave Reynolds first emailed our site earlier in 2016, he wrote: “I am from Huntington Beach, CA. I’m 57 and have been surfing since the mid-’70 s. I’m kind of an expert on the subject of surfing, which got me the job as curator at the International Surfing Museum, and I’m also an artist/craftsman and trophy designer. I have been selling my work all over the world since 1988. Until this week I had no clue there was such things as diorama artists. As a little kid in the ’60s, I got inspired by the dioramas at Knott’s Berry Farm’s Mott’s Miniatures. Since the ’90s, I have built many dioramas with a surfing flair. Some are exteriors of surf shops, and some are interiors of surf shops. I just started doing these dioramas built inside of vintage TV sets.” (The latest of these has been added below.) You can visit Dave on the web at SURFTROPHY.COM.
Dave writes of his piece above, “It’s a re-creation of what’s called the ‘Trench Run.’ The Death Star surface is custom-built. It even has its own little audio track. The RCA TV was made in 1977, same year the first Star Wars came out!”
